NOTICESNotices of motion: The Chair of the Standing Committee of Privileges (Senator Johnston): To move on the next day of sitting—That the Committee of Privileges and the Committee of Senators' Interests may confer on the latter committee's reference into a draft code of conduct for senators. (general business notice of motion no. 381) Senator Wright: To move on the next day of sitting—That the Senate— (a) notes that: (i) 10 September 2011 was World Suicide Prevention Day, (ii) suicide is preventable, (iii) the whole of government and the whole of the community have a responsibility to prevent suicide, and (iv) suicide prevention is everybody's business; (b) recognises that: (i) suicide occurs throughout all sections of Australian society, (ii) in 2009, 2 132 Australians died of suicide, 80 per cent of whom were men, (iii) middle and old age are times of greatest risk, while suicide remains the single biggest killer of people under 35,
(v) suicide has immeasurable human, social and financial costs; and (c) calls on the Federal Government to encourage speaking out about suicide and make suicide prevention a priority. (general business notice of motion no. 382) The Leader of the Australian Greens (Senator Bob Brown), pursuant to standing order 76(6), gave a notice of motion in general terms, as follows: To move on 14 September 2011—That the Senate establish an inquiry into media in Australia. The Leader of the Australian Greens (Senator Bob Brown): To move on 13 September 2011—That the following bill be introduced: A Bill for an Act to improve the public consultation and review of mobile phone towers, and other related matters. Telecommunications (Mobile Phone Towers) Bill 2011. (general business notice of motion no. 383) Intention to withdraw: The Chairman of the Standing Committee on Regulations and Ordinances (Senator Furner), pursuant to standing order 78, gave notice of his intention, at the giving of notices on the next day of sitting, to withdraw business of the Senate notice of motion no. 1 standing in his name for 10 sitting days after today for the disallowance of Instrument no. CASA EX48/11, made under subregulation 308(1) of the Civil Aviation Regulations 1988. Senator Furner, by leave, made a statement relating to the notice of intention. | |
