CUSTOMS AMENDMENT (SERIOUS DRUGS DETECTION) BILL 2011

Explanatory memorandum: Senator Collins tabled a supplementary explanatory memorandum relating to the government amendment to be moved to the bill.

On the motion of Senator Collins the following amendment was debated and agreed to:

 Schedule 1, item 32, page 10 (after line 27), after subsection 219ZAB(2), insert:

  (2A) Any equipment prescribed under subsection (2) must be configured so that the equipment's use, when carrying out an internal non-medical scan, is limited to that necessary to produce an indication that a person is or may be internally concealing a suspicious substance.

The Acting Deputy President (Senator Barnett) resumed the chair and the Temporary Chair of Committees reported accordingly.

On the motion of Senator Collins the report from the committee was adopted and the bill read a third time.
