SELECTION OF BILLS—STANDING COMMITTEE—REPORT NO. 2 OF 2011

The Chair of the Selection of Bills Committee (Senator McEwen) tabled the following report:

SELECTION OF BILLS COMMITTEE

REPORT NO. 2 OF 2011

 1. The committee met in private session on Wednesday, 2 March 2011 at 7.31 pm.

 2. The committee resolved to recommend—That—

  (a) the provisions of the Broadcasting Legislation Amendment (Digital Dividend and Other Measures) Bill 2011 be referred immediately to the Environment and Communications Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 21 March 2011;


  (b) the provisions of the Combating the Financing of People Smuggling and Other Measures Bill 2011 be referred immediately to the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 21 March 2011;

  (c) the Customs Amendment (Anti-Dumping) Bill 2011 be referred immediately to the Economics Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 22 June 2011;

  (d) the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Amendment (Bioregional Plans) Bill 2011 be referred immediately to the Environment and Communications Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 13 May 2011; and

  (e) the Tax Laws Amendment (Temporary Flood and Cyclone Reconstruction Levy) Bill 2011 and Income Tax Rates Amendment (Temporary Flood and Cyclone Reconstruction Levy) Bill 2011 be referred immediately to the Economics Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 21 March 2011.

 3. The committee resolved to recommend—That the following bills not be referred to committees:

   Corporations and Other Legislation Amendment (Trustee Companies and Other Measures) Bill 2011

   Customs Amendment (Serious Drugs Detection) Bill 2011

   Electronic Transactions Amendment Bill 2011

   Personal Property Securities (Corporations and Other Amendments) e Bill 2011

   Schools Assistance Amendment (Financial Assistance) Bill 2011

   Tax Laws Amendment (2011 Measures No. 1) Bill 2011

   Therapeutic Goods Legislation Amendment (Copyright) Bill 2011.

 The committee recommends accordingly.

 4. The committee deferred consideration of the following bills to its next meeting:

   Customs Amendment (Anti-dumping Measures) Bill 2011

   Electoral and Referendum Amendment (Provisional Voting) Bill 2011
