DISCUSSION OF MATTER OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE—TAXATION—PROPOSED INCOME TAX LEVY

The Deputy President (Senator Ferguson) informed the Senate that Senator Fifield had proposed that the following matter of public importance be submitted to the Senate for discussion:

 The Gillard Government's continued mismanagement of public finances and intention to compound cost of living pressures on families by introducing a new income tax levy.

The proposal was supported by four senators and the matter was discussed.

 Taxation—Proposed income tax levy—Data on cyclones that have impacted on Queensland, Australia, since 1864.
