DISCUSSION OF MATTER OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE—HEALTH—MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

The Acting Deputy President (Senator Marshall) informed the Senate that Senator Fifield had proposed that the following matter of public importance be submitted to the Senate for discussion:

The Gillard Government's failure to properly fund mental health services, increasing pressure on public hospitals and emergency departments and leaving hundreds of thousands of Australians with mental health illnesses untreated.

The proposal was supported by four senators and the matter was discussed.
