EXCISE TARIFF AMENDMENT BILL (NO. 2) 1986

Order of the Day read for the adjourned debate on the motion of the Minister for Veterans' Affairs (Senator Gietzelt)-That this Bill be now read a second time.

Senator Vigor, by leave, moved the following requests together, viz:

That the House of Representatives be requested to make the following amendments in the Bill:

Page 2, sub-clause 2 (10), line 15, after ""Section 14'', insert ""(except paragraphs (a), (ab), (ac) and (ad))''.

Page 2, after sub-clause 2 (10), insert the following new sub-clauses:

""(10a) Subject to sub-section (10b), paragraphs 14 (a), (ab), (ac) and (ad) shall come into operation on the day on which this Act receives the Royal Assent.

""(10b) In respect of the period between the hour of 8 o'clock in the evening by standard time in the Australian Capital Territory on 19 August 1986 and that hour on the day on which this Act receives the Royal Assent, paragraph 14 (a) shall have effect as if the figure ""$37.26'' were substituted for the figure ""$50''.

Page 6, paragraph 14 (a), line 14, leave out ""$37.26'', insert ""$50''.

Page 6, after paragraph 14 (a), insert the following new paragraphs:

""(ab) by omitting from item 7 "$37.26' and substituting "$50';

(ac) by omitting from item 8 "$37.26' and substituting "$50';

(ad) by omitting from item 9 "$1.10' and substituting "$50';''.

Debate ensued.

Question-That the requests be agreed to-put and negatived.

Bill to be reported without requests.

The Acting Deputy-President (Senator Colston) resumed the Chair; and the Chairman of Committees (Senator Hamer) reported accordingly.

On the motion of the Minister for Community Services (Senator Grimes) the Report from the Committee was adopted, and the Bill read a third time.
