Senator Macklin moved an amendment to the States Grants (Tertiary Education Assistance) Amendment Bill (No. 2) 1986, viz:

Page 2, paragraph 3 (c), proposed definition of ""relevant enrolment'', paragraph (d), lines 37 and 38, leave out ""by the Minister for the purposes of this paragraph by notice in writing published in the Gazette'', insert ""in the regulations as a class of persons for the purposes of this paragraph''.

Debate ensued.

Question-That the words proposed to be left out be left out-put and negatived.

Amendment negatived accordingly.

Senator Macklin moved an amendment to the States Grants (Tertiary Education Assistance) Amendment Bill (No. 2) 1986, viz:

Page 6, clause 4, proposed new sub-sections 4d (4) and (5), lines 9 to 22, leave out the sub-sections, insert the following sub-sections:

"" "(4) The amount of charge for each relevant enrolment in respect of the year 1987 is-

(a) in the case of the enrolment of a person at a relevant institution to undertake a course, being a course which the Commission determines to be such as reasonably to require the attention of the person on a full-time basis-$250; or

(b) in any other case-$125.

"(5) The amount of charge for each relevant enrolment in respect of a year to which this section applies is-

(a) in the case of the enrolment of a person at a relevant institution to undertake a course, being a course which the Commission determines to be such as reasonably to require the attention of the person on a full-time basis-subject to paragraph (c), the amount ascertained by multiplying by the factor calculated under sub-section (6) in relation to that year-

(i) in a case to which sub-paragraph (ii) does not apply-$250; or

(ii) if, by virtue of another application of this section, an amount other than $250 was the amount of charge for each relevant enrolment to which this paragraph applies in respect of the preceding year-that other amount;

(b) in any other case-subject to paragraph (c), the amount ascertained by multiplying by the factor calculated under sub-section (6) in relation to that year-

(i) in a case to which sub-paragraph (ii) does not apply-$125; or

(ii) if, by virtue of another application of this section, an amount other than $125 was the amount of charge for each relevant enrolment to which this paragraph applies in respect of the preceding year-that other amount; or

(c) if an amount calculated under paragraph (a) or (b) includes a number of cents-the amount so calculated disregarding the cents.'.''.
