PETITIONS

The following 8 petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received:

Senator Sanders, from 15 petitioners praying that the Senate reject proposals for a national identification card system and Data Protection Agency.

Senator Sanders, from 659 petitioners praying that the Senate request the Government to prohibit the entry of nuclear weapons into Australia.

Senator Short, from 9 petitioners praying that the Senate request the Government to withdraw the fringe benefits tax legislation.

Senators Sanders and Vallentine, from 21 and 29 petitioners, respectively, praying that the Constitution be reformed to recognise significant expressions of public concern and that a committee to represent public requests be formed.

Senators Sanders and Siddons, from 43 and 25 petitioners, respectively, praying that the Senate pass the Independent and Multicultural Broadcasting Corporation Bill 1986.

Senator Sanders, from 40 petitioners praying that the Senate request the Government to re-impose the ban on the sale of uranium to France and strengthen the South Pacific Nuclear Free Zone Treaty.
