The following 9 petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received:

Senator Robertson, from 34 petitioners praying that the Senate request the Government to oppose the process of food irradiation and ban the importation of radioactive substances used in this process.

Senator Robertson, from 55 petitioners praying that the Senate reject the Australian Bill of Rights and Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Bills.

Senator Bjelke-Petersen, from 22 petitioners praying that the imperial system of measurement be restored.

Senator Messner, from 31 petitioners praying that the Senate request the Government to provide finance for programs which will prevent the extinction of remaining Aboriginal and Islander languages.

Senator Brownhill, from 74 petitioners praying that the fringe benefits tax legislation be repealed.

Senator Mason, from 8 petitioners praying that the Senate pass the Independent and Multicultural Broadcasting Corporation Bill 1986.

Senator Zakharov, from 33 petitioners praying that legislation for any plant variety rights system which gives exclusive ownership rights over seeds to individuals, organisations or enterprises be not passed.

Senator Robertson, from 13 petitioners praying that the Senate request the Government to introduce its capital gains tax legislation and that this legislation be opposed in the Senate.

Senator Robertson, from 14 petitioners praying that the Senate request the Government to reverse its decisions relating to the reduction of funding for ""English as a Second Language'' programs, abolition of the Australian Institute of Multicultural Affairs and the Multicultural Education program, and amalgamation of the Special Broadcasting Service with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Petitioning Letter: Senator Robertson, by leave, presented a petitioning letter from 59 Australian citizens requesting that the Australian Bill of Rights Bill 1985 be withdrawn.
