Senator Puplick: To move on the next day of sitting-That the Senate-

(a) congratulates Mr Elil Wiesel, a survivor and historian of the holocaust, on the award to him of the 1986 Nobel Prize for Peace;

(b) commends the Norwegian Nobel Committee on its choice and notes with admiration the words of its citation that Mr Wiesel ""is a messenger to mankind, his message is one of peace, atonement and human dignity'', and that his example shows that ""the forces fighting evil in the world can be victorious''.

Senator Kilgariff: To move on the next day of sitting-That the Senate, recognising that-

(a) nuclear peace for the world will come through adequate, supervised reductions in nuclear weapons; and

(b) arms limitation arrangements between the United States and the Soviet Union specifically provide for verification, and the general purpose of the Pine Gap facility contributes to this objective,

calls upon the Federal Government to give an unequivocal commitment to renew the lease on the joint Australian-United States defence facility at Pine Gap, Alice Springs, for a further term of 10 years, when the present lease expires on 19 October 1987.

Intention to withdraw:

The Chairman of the Standing Committee on Regulations and Ordinances (Senator Cooney), pursuant to Standing Order 109a, gave notice of his intention, at giving of Notices on the next day of sitting, to withdraw Business of the Senate, Notices of Motion Nos 2, 3, 5 and 11 standing in his name for 9 sitting days hence, for the disallowance of the Air Navigation (Charges) Regulations (Amendment) (as contained in Statutory Rules 1986 No. 169), the Departure Tax Collection Regulations (Amendment), the Postal By-laws Amendment No. 2 of 1986, and the Air Navigation (Charges) Regulations (Amendment) (as contained in Statutory Rules 1986 No. 211).
