SENATOR POWELL-CONFIRMATION OF APPOINTMENT TO FILL CASUAL VACANCY

The President informed the Senate that he had received, through His Excellency the Governor-General, a certificate of the choice by the Parliament of Victoria of Janet Frances Powell as a Senator to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Senator the Honourable Donald Leslie Chipp on 18 August 1986.

The Certificate was tabled, and read by the Clerk, as follows:

I refer to the letter I received from the President of the Senate on 19th August, 1986 advising that a vacancy had occurred in the representation of the State of Victoria in the Senate through the resignation of Senator the Honourable Donald Leslie Chipp on 18th August, 1986.

In accordance with the provisions of Section 15 of the Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act, I certify that the Houses of the Parliament of Victoria, sitting and voting together on 17th September, 1986, have chosen MRS. JANET FRANCES POWELL to hold the place in the Senate rendered vacant by the resignation of Senator the Honourable Donald Leslie Chipp.
