The following 14 petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received:

Senator Vallentine, from 46 petitioners praying that the Parliament recognise the widespread public opposition to plant variety rights and promote alternative means of royalty collection for plant breeders.

Senator Durack, from 31 petitioners praying that the Senate reject the Australian Bill of Rights Bill 1985.

Senator Robertson, from 22 petitioners praying that the Senate act to protect society from moral pollution and its harmful effects.

Senator Harradine, from 451 petitioners praying that the Senate amend the Sex Discrimination Act to enable the weight lifting limits for women employees to continue.

Senator Button, from 38 petitioners praying that the Senate defer any action on the Australian Bill of Rights Bill 1985 for a period of 12 months.

Senators Reid and Walsh, from 258 and 300 petitioners, respectively, praying that the Senate request the Government to increase family allowances.

Senator Macklin, from 293 petitioners praying that the lease of the Pine Gap Defence Space Research Facility be terminated 1 year from October 1986, and that the future use of the facility be subject to public debate and ratification by the Parliament.

Senator Bolkus, from 149 petitioners praying that the Senate request the Government to provide annual scholarships in Australia for South African students selected from refugee camps.

Senator Macklin, from 390 petitioners praying that the Senate prevent any increase in postal charges for the coming financial year.

Senator Georges, from 45 petitioners praying that the rights of M. Skrijel and family be recognised.

Senator Walters, from 168 petitioners praying that the Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations be amended to include provisions relating to blasphemy, obscenity and indecency.

Senator Vigor, from 90 petitioners praying that the Senate support the Australian Capital Territory Smoking and Tobacco Products Advertisements Prohibition Bill 1983 [1985].

Senator Harradine, from 548 petitioners praying that the Senate pass Senator Harradine's Bill to prohibit experiments involving the use of human embryos created by in vitro fertilization.
