PETITIONS

The following 5 petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received:

Senator Messner, from 14 petitioners praying that the Senate request the Government to introduce its capital gains tax legislation and that this legislation be opposed in the Senate.

Senator Bolkus, from 12 petitioners praying that the lease of the Pine Gap Defence Space Research Facility be terminated one year from October 1986, and that the future use of the facility be subject to public debate and ratification by the Parliament.

Senator McKiernan, from 11 petitioners praying that the Senate support and recognise the African National Congress and the South West Africa People's Organisation as the legitimate representatives of South Africa and Namibia and provide financial support to these organisations.

Senator Vigor, from 65 petitioners praying that the practice of petrol companies controlling petrol retail outlets which are in competition with independent retailers be outlawed.

Senator Knowles, from 16 petitioners praying that the Senate reject the Australian Bill of Rights Bill 1985.
