The following 8 petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received:

Senators Michael Baume and Knowles, 2 petitions similar in wording, from 82 and 143 petitioners, respectively, praying that the Senate reject the Australian Bill of Rights Bill 1985.

Senators Childs and Cooney, from 8 and 16 petitioners, respectively, praying that the Senate defer any action on the Australian Bill of Rights Bill 1985 for a period of 12 months.

Senator Sir John Carrick, from 19 petitioners praying that the Senate pass Senator Harradine's Bill to prohibit experiments involving the use of human embryos created by in vitro fertilisation.

Senator Collard, from 13 petitioners praying that the Australian flag be not changed without the consent of the people in a referendum.

Senator Vigor, from 70 petitioners praying that the practice of petrol companies controlling petrol retail outlets which are in competition with independent retailers be outlawed.

Senator Collard, from 102 petitioners praying that the Senate take action to prevent charges being brought against Dr B. R. Taylor for overservicing and debate the effectiveness of the universal coverage of Medicare.
