VACANCY IN THE REPRESENTATION OF TASMANIA-CHOICE OF JOCELYN MARGARET NEWMAN

The President informed the Senate that he had received, through His Excellency the Governor-General, from the Governor of the State of Tasmania, a certificate of the choice of Jocelyn Margaret Newman as a Senator to fill the vacancy in the representation of that State caused by the resignation of Senator Peter Elliot Rae.

The Certificate was tabled, and read by the Clerk as follows:

Your Excellency,

I have the honour to advise you that pursuant to sections 15 and 21 of the Commonwealth of Australia Constitution, a Joint Meeting of the Legislative Council and the House of Assembly has been held to fill the vacancy in the representation of the State of Tasmania in the Senate due to the resignation of Senator Peter Elliot Rae, and that Mrs Jocelyn Margaret Newman has been chosen by the Joint Meeting.

The Speaker of the House of Assembly was elected the Presiding Officer of the Joint Meeting, and he has certified to me of the fact of this election.
