PETITIONS

The following 9 petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received:

Senators Michael Baume and Richardson, each from 18 petitioners, praying that the Senate defer any action on the Australian Bill of Rights Bill 1985 for a period of 12 months.

Senators Sir John Carrick, Hill and Vigor, from 37, 397 and 120 petitioners, respectively, praying that the Senate pass Senator Harradine's Bill to prohibit experiments involving the use of human embryos created by in vitro fertilization.

Senators Hill and Maguire, 2 petitions similar in wording, from 6 and 14 petitioners, respectively, praying that the Senate reject the Australian Bill of Rights Bill 1985.

Senator Vigor, from 36 petitioners praying that the practice of petrol companies controlling petrol retail outlets which are in competition with independent retailers be outlawed.

Senator Vigor, from 53 petitioners praying that no further action be taken towards self-government in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) until after the holding of a referendum of voters of the ACT.
