The Senate, according to Order, resolved itself into Committee for the further consideration of the Bills.

In the Committee

AUSTRALIAN BILL OF RIGHTS BILL 1985-

Consideration resumed of clause 8, Article 2 and of the amendment moved thereto by Senator Vigor, viz: Page 8, lines 22 to 24, leave out the Article, insert the following Article:

""Nothing in this Bill of Rights shall be taken to diminish, derogate from or prevent the exercise of any right existing apart from this Bill of Rights.''

Amendment, by leave, withdrawn.

On the motion of Senator Vigor the following amendment was debated and agreed to: Page 8, line 22, after ""law'', insert "", convention or custom''.

Article 2, as amended, further debated.

And it being 7 p.m.: The Temporary Chairman of Committees (Senator MacGibbon), under Sessional Order, put the Question-That he do leave the Chair and report to the Senate.

Question-put and passed.

The President resumed the Chair; and Senator MacGibbon reported accordingly.
