FEDERAL AIRPORTS CORPORATION BILL 1986

The Senate, according to Order, resolved itself into Committee for the further consideration of the Bill.

In the Committee

Consideration resumed of the Bill and of the amendment moved thereto by Senator Sanders, viz: Page 4, after paragraph 7 (2) (b), insert the following new paragraphs:

""(ba) ensures that, as far as is practicable, the level of noise at airports is not such as to be detrimental to the communities near airports;

""(bb) ensures that, where land at a Federal airport is to be used for a purpose not directly related to aviation, being land in respect of which a lease, licence or authority has been granted to a person (other than the Commonwealth), the use would, if the land were not in a Federal airport, be allowed by the law of the relevant State or Territory (including laws made by a relevant local government body);

""(bc) ensures that where a building is to be erected on land at a Federal airport for a purpose not directly related to aviation, being land in respect of which a lease, licence or authority has been granted to a person (other than the Commonwealth), the design and construction of the building would, if the land were not in a Federal airport, be allowed by the law of the relevant State or Territory (including laws made by a relevant local government body);

""(bd) ensures that the Corporation and the communities served by Federal airports are good neighbours;''.

And on the amendment moved by Senator MacGibbon to Senator Sanders' proposed amendment, viz: Leave out paragraph (ba).

Question-That the words proposed to be left out by Senator MacGibbon's amendment to Senator Sanders' proposed amendment be left out-put and negatived.

Senator Sanders' amendment further debated.

Question-That the words proposed to be inserted be inserted-put and passed.

Bill, as amended, agreed to.

Bill to be reported with amendments.

The Acting Deputy-President (Senator Jones) resumed the Chair; and the Chairman of Committees (Senator Hamer) reported accordingly.

On the motion of the Minister for Community Services (Senator Grimes) the Report from the Committee was adopted, and the Bill read a third time.
