JUDICIARY AMENDMENT BILL 1985

Senator Durack moved an amendment, viz: Page 1, clause 3, lines 9 to 15, leave out the clause, insert the following new clause:

Indictments

""3. Section 69 of the Principal Act is amended by inserting in sub-section (3) "or refer the matter to such legal aid authorities as the Attorney-General considers appropriate' after "the accused person'.''.

Debate ensued.

Ordered-That the Temporary Chairman of Committees (Senator MacGibbon) report progress and ask leave to sit again.

The Deputy-President resumed the Chair; and Senator MacGibbon reported that the Committee had considered the Bill, made progress, and asked leave to sit again.

Ordered-That the Committee have leave to sit again at a later hour of the day.
