WHEAT MARKETING AMENDMENT BILL 1985

The Senate, according to Order, resolved itself into Committee for the consideration of Message No. 146 of the House of Representatives.

SCHEDULE OF NEW AMENDMENTS MADE BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE AMENDMENT TO WHICH THE SENATE HAS DISAGREED

Clause 10, page 4, after proposed new sub-section 33F (2) insert the following sub-section:

"" "(2A) In nominating a person for appointment as a member of the Board referred to in paragraph 34 (1) (d), the Committee shall have regard to the requirement that at least one of the members referred to in that paragraph is to be a wheat grower.''.

Clause 11, page 10, lines 16 and 17, omit proposed new paragraph 34 (1) (d), insert the following paragraph:

""(d) 4 other members, each of whom has had extensive experience at a high level in finance, marketing or grain movement logistics and at least one of whom is a wheat grower.';''.

The Minister for Community Services (Senator Grimes) moved-That the alternative new amendments be agreed to.

Debate ensued.

Question-put and passed.

Resolution to be reported.

The Deputy-President (Senator Hamer) resumed the Chair; and the Temporary Chairman of Committees (Senator Elstob) reported that the Committee had considered Message No. 146 of the House of Representatives and had agreed to the alternative new amendments inserted by the House of Representatives in the Bill.

On the motion of Senator Grimes the Report from the Committee was adopted.
