STATUTE LAW (MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS) BILL (NO. 1) 1985

Senator Durack, by leave, moved the following amendments together: Page 31, Schedule 1, proposed amendments of the Defence Act 1903, proposed new sub-section 120B (15), at end of proposed sub-section, add the following word and paragraph: ''or (c) who is assigned for war service, special service or assigned for duty with an authorised peacekeeping force.''.

Page 31, Schedule 1, proposed amendments of the Defence Act 1903, proposed new sub-section 120B (16), before definition of ''salary'', insert the following new definition: '' 'peacekeeping force' has the same meaning as in section 107J of the Repatriation Act 1920;''.

Page 31, Schedule 1, proposed amendments of the Defence Act 1903, proposed new sub-section 120B (16), at end of proposed sub-section, add the following new definitions: '' 'special service' is service that is prescribed for the purposes of this section;

'war service' is service that is prescribed for the purposes of this section.''.

Debate ensued.

Senator Peter Rae moved an amendment, viz: Page 99, Schedule 1, proposed amendment of the Public Works Committee Act 1969, after the proposed amendment, add the following new amendment: ''Section 18- Add at the end the following sub-sections: '(10) A public work, the estimated cost of which exceeds $2,000,000 but does not exceed $6,000,000 shall not be commenced unless the Committee has been advised by notice in writing by the Minister of the proposed work.

'(11) If the Committee is advised pursuant to sub-section (10) by the Minister of a proposed work and the Committee- (a) does not advise the Minister by notice in writing within 14 days that it wishes to inquire into the matter-the proposed work shall be proceeded with, or

(b) within 14 days advises the Minister that it wishes to inquire into the matter-the proposed work shall be dealt with in accordance with sub-sections (1) to (7).'.''.
