PETITIONS

The following 18 petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received: Senator Robertson, from 6 petitioners praying that Wilton be not considered as a site for Sydney's second airport.

Senator Elstob, from 198 petitioners praying that the Senate request the Government to introduce a Bill providing for a total ban on the export of live animals from Australia for consumption overseas.

Senator Ryan, from 20 petitioners praying that the commitment to the provision of post-secondary education free of direct charges to individual participants be reaffirmed.

Senator Richardson, from 1249 petitioners praying that the Senate disallow certain regulations and ordinances dealing with publications and video material, that action be taken to enforce existing laws, that further measures be taken in association with the States and that the censors more appropriately reflect reasonable and responsible community attitudes.

Senator Bolkus, from 235 petitioners praying that the Senate support the New Zealand Government in its stand for a nuclear-free South Pacific.

Senator Robertson, from 40 petitioners praying that the existing Australian National Flag be not changed.

Senator Messner, from 548 petitioners praying that the Senate repeal the Labor Government's iniquitous and unfair assets test.

Senator Ryan, from 144 petitioners praying that no further action be taken towards self-government in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) until after the holding of a referendum of voters of the ACT.

Senator Brownhill, from 42 petitioners praying that the Senate act to protect society from moral pollution and its harmful effects.

Senators Chipp, Colston, Gietzelt, MacGibbon, Ryan and Walsh, from 14, 20, 14, 23, 319 and 304 petitioners, respectively, praying that post-secondary tuition fees and any form of the user-pays principle in education not be introduced, that student financial assistance be increased and that visa charges on private overseas students be removed.

Senator Ryan, from 4000 petitioners praying that the Senate reject post-secondary tuition fees and mandatory overseas student charges and that the commitment to free post-school education be reaffirmed.

Senator Messner, from 101 petitioners praying that the Australian flag be not changed without the consent of the people in a referendum.

Senator Short, from 17 petitioners praying that the Senate reject any changes to the design of the Australian National Flag without the prior approval of Australian citizens at a referendum.
