SUGAR AGREEMENT BILL 1985

Order of the Day read for the adjourned debate on the motion of the Minister for Finance (Senator Walsh)-That this Bill be now read a second time-And on the amendment moved thereto by Senator Collard, viz: At end of motion add '', but the Senate notes with great concern the plight of the industry generally and the communities dependent on the industry because of the failure of the Hawke Government to honour its pre-election promises to assist the depressed sugar industry''.

Debate resumed.

Senator Jack Evans, by leave, moved the following amendments to Senator Collard's amendment together: After ''the Hawke Government'' in the words proposed to be added, insert ''and the Bjelke-Petersen Queensland State Government''.

Leave out ''its'', insert ''their''.

Debate continued.

Question-That the amendments (Senator Jack Evans' amendments to Senator Collard's amendment) be agreed to-put.
