ELECTIONS 1984-SENATE AND HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES-PAPERS

The Leader of the Government (Senator Button) laid upon the Table the following Papers: Elections 1984-Correspondence between the Prime Minister, the Hon. R. J. L. Hawke, A.C., M.P., and the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, His Excellency the Rt Hon. Sir Ninian Stephen, A.K., G.C.M.G., G.C.V.O., K.B.E., relating to the proposed dissolution of the House of Representatives and the taking of necessary action for a periodical Senate election to enable elections for both Houses to be held on 1 December 1984, dated 8 October 1984.

Senator Harradine, by leave, moved-That the Senate take note of the Papers.

Ordered-That the debate be adjourned till the next day of sitting, and that Senator Harradine have leave to continue his speech on the resumption of the debate.

Pursuant to Sessional Order, consideration of Government Papers was called on.
