DEATH OF FORMER SENATOR, THE HONOURABLE SIR ALISTER MAXWELL MCMULLIN, K.C.M.G

The Leader of the Government (Senator Button) referred to the death, on 7 August 1984, of the Honourable Sir Alister Maxwell McMullin, K.C.M.G., a former Senator and President of the Senate, and, by leave, moved-That the Senate expresses its deep regret at the death, on 7 August 1984, of the Honourable Sir Alister Maxwell McMullin, K.C.M.G., a former Senator for New South Wales from 1951 to 1971, and President of the Senate from 1953 to 1971, places on record its appreciation of his long and meritorious public service and tenders its profound sympathy to his widow and the members of his family in their bereavement.

And the motion having been supported by the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate (Senator Chaney), the Leader of the National Party of Australia in the Senate (Senator Scott), the Leader of the Australian Democrats (Senator Chipp), Senators Sir John Carrick, Peter Rae and the President- And all Senators present having stood, in silence-
