The President informed the Senate that Senator Kilgariff had proposed that a matter of public importance be submitted to the Senate for discussion, viz: ''The political manoeuvrings of the Government to avoid its election undertaking to construct the Alice Springs to Darwin railway and the consequent denial to Australia of the advantages of the railway''.

And at least 4 Senators having risen in support of the proposed discussion- The President called upon Senator Kilgariff to speak.

Discussion ensued.

Discussion concluded.
