PETITIONS

The following petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received: Senators Archer and Walters, from 219 and 692 petitioners, respectively, praying that the decision not to upgrade Wynyard Airport in Tasmania be reversed.

Senator Ryan, from 194 petitioners praying that support be shown for the Government's education policies regarding Government and non-Government school funding.

Senator Ryan, from 26 petitioners praying that the Senate support the Sex Discrimination Bill 1983.

Senator Archer, from 15 petitioners praying that the Sex Discrimination Bill 1983 be referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee to examine its implications.

Senators Archer and Scott, from 10 and 9 petitioners, respectively, praying that the Local Government (Personal Income Tax Sharing) Act 1976 be amended to provide a minimum guarantee to local government general revenue sharing arrangements.

Senator Peter Rae, from 30 petitioners praying that the Government not legislate for any plant variety rights system which gives exclusive ownership rights over seeds to individuals, organisations or enterprises.

Senator Townley, from 149 petitioners praying that the Senate urge the Presiding Officers to ensure that the staff of Parliament House are given an opportunity to express their views before the Joint House Department proceeds with the proposed alterations to the Non-Members' Bar and Cafeteria.
