ANIMAL WELFARE-SELECT COMMITTEE-APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS

The President informed the Senate that he had received letters from the Leader of the Government (Senator Button), the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate (Senator Chaney) and the Leader of the Australian Democrats (Senator Chipp) nominating Senators Georges, Hearn, Scott and Jack Evans to be members of the Select Committee on Animal Welfare.

The Attorney-General (Senator Gareth Evans), by leave, moved-That Senators Georges, Hearn, Scott and Jack Evans, having been duly nominated in accordance with Resolution of the Senate dated 17 November 1983, be appointed members of the Select Committee on Animal Welfare.

Debate ensued.
