PETITIONS

The following petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received: Senators Chaney, Jack Evans and Messner, from 9, 15 and 13 petitioners, respectively, praying that the Senate amend the Sex Discrimination Bill 1983 to prevent it from being used in support of deliberately procured abortions.

Senators Archer and Watson, from 309 and 147 petitioners, respectively, praying that the decision not to upgrade Wynyard Airport in Tasmania be reversed.

Senator Sir John Carrick, from 16 petitioners praying that the Senate make certain amendments to the Sex Discrimination Bill 1983 and ensure that a conscience vote on the Bill is permitted to all members of Parliament.

Senator Harradine, from 26 petitioners praying that the United Nations Convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women be not ratified.

Senators Grimes and Reid, from 48 and 18 petitioners, respectively, praying that support be shown for the Government's education policies regarding Government and non-Government school funding.

Senators Collard and Gietzelt, from 20 and 24 petitioners, respectively, praying that the Senate ensure that chiropractic services are included in Medicare.

Senator Collard, from 56 petitioners praying that the Australian Cadet Corps be not reorganised.

Senator Reid, from 85 petitioners praying that support be given to Amnesty International regarding the case of Mr Mart Niklus and that representations be made to the Government of the Soviet Union for his release and sponsored entry into Australia.

Senator Primmer, from 44 petitioners praying that the Government not legislate for any plant variety rights system which gives exclusive ownership rights over seeds to individuals, organisations or enterprises.

Senators Collard, Dame Margaret Guilfoyle, Lewis, Messner, Missen and Scott, from 37, 33, 78, 8, 30 and 45 petitioners, respectively, praying that the Local Government (Personal Income Tax Sharing) Act 1976 be amended to provide a minimum guarantee to local government general revenue sharing arrangements.
