PETITIONS

The following petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received: Senator Jones, from 37 petitioners praying that the Senate not support the Sex Discrimination Bill 1983.

Senator Grimes, from 215 petitioners praying that the Senate make certain amendments to the Sex Discrimination Bill 1983 and ensure that a conscience vote on the Bill is permitted to all members of Parliament.

Senators Grimes, Jones, Lajovic, Reid and Sibraa, from 39, 184, 196, 45 and 44 petitioners, respectively, praying that the Senate amend the Sex Discrimination Bill 1983 to prevent it from being used in support of deliberately procured abortions.

Senator Walters, from 72 petitioners praying that the Sex Discrimination Bill 1983 be referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee to examine its implications.

Senator Grimes, from 62 petitioners praying that the guidelines for determining fees in subsidized child care centres be reviewed.

Senator Jones, from 173 petitioners praying that the Senate ensure that the subsidy for residential colleges be restored to the level existing prior to the 1983-84 Budget.

Senator Jones, from 45 petitioners praying that the Senate establish a Select Committee to inquire into and report on the effect of the removal of tax exemption from Defence Force Reserves pay before the policy is implemented.

Senator Bjelke-Petersen, from 31 petitioners praying that the Local Government (Personal Income Tax Sharing) Act 1976 be amended to provide a minimum guarantee to local government general revenue sharing arrangements.

Senator Bjelke-Petersen, from 23 petitioners praying that the imperial system of measurement be restored.

Senator Messner, from 25 petitioners praying that the tax on fortified wine either be withdrawn or modified in its method of application and collection.
