PETITIONS

The following petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received: Senators Baume, Boswell, Childs, Chipp, Dame Margaret Guilfoyle, Lewis, Missen, Primmer, Robertson and Zakharov, from 30, 71, 15, 40, 59, 83, 52, 50, 55 and 52 petitioners, respectively, praying that the Senate amend the Sex Discrimination Bill 1983 to prevent it from being used in support of deliberately procured abortions.

Senators Baume and Chipp, from 11 and 25 petitioners, respectively, praying that the United Nations Convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women be not ratified.

Senator Macklin, from 119 petitioners praying that the Senate legislate to ensure that no nuclear weapons are allowed into Australia, that all uranium mining cease in Australia and that the Senate urge the Government to encourage the United States and the Soviet Union to stop the nuclear arms race.

Senator Tate, from 178 petitioners praying that the Senate make certain amendments to the Sex Discrimination Bill 1983 and ensure that a conscience vote on the Bill is permitted to all members of Parliament.
