PETITIONS

The following petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received: Senators Baume, Sir John Carrick, Childs, Chipp, Jack Evans, Dame Margaret Guilfoyle, Lewis, Missen, Primmer, Richardson and Robertson, from 44, 30, 87, 475, 435, 609, 487, 462, 457, 135 and 619 petitioners, respectively, praying that the Senate amend the Sex Discrimination Bill 1983 to prevent it from being used in support of deliberately procured abortions.

Senator Ryan, from 1645 petitioners praying that Government funding of Youth Forum be ensured.

Senator Ryan, from 144 petitioners praying that the United Nations Convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women be ratified.

Senator Baume, from 60 petitioners praying that the proposal to build an airport in the North-Western region of Sydney, commonly called Scheyville, be rejected and that the findings of the MANS Committee be endorsed.

Senators Baume, Chaney, Coates and Tate, from 31, 16, 208 and 202 petitioners, respectively, praying that the Senate make certain amendments to the Sex Discrimination Bill 1983 and ensure that a conscience vote on the Bill is permitted to all members of Parliament.

Senator Baume, from 156 petitioners praying that the TEAS allowance be increased to and maintained at the same level as the single unemployment benefit.

Senator Ryan, from 25 petitioners praying that the United Nations Convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women be not ratified.

Senator Ryan, from 37 petitioners praying that the Senate take certain action to improve funding and services to the post-school education sector.
