PETITIONS

The following petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received: Senator Gareth Evans, from 16 petitioners praying that the proposed taxation of the Defence Force Reserves pay be not introduced.

Senators Archer, Lajovic, Missen, Robertson, Sibraa, Tate and Walters, from 188, 37, 33, 454, 38, 87 and 517 petitioners, respectively, praying that the Senate make certain amendments to the Sex Discrimination Bill 1983 and ensure that a conscience vote on the Bill is permitted to all members of Parliament.

Senators Sir John Carrick, Chipp, Lajovic, Lewis, Missen, Sibraa and Zakharov, from 181, 160, 165, 149, 165, 196 and 167 petitioners, respectively, praying that the Senate amend the Sex Discrimination Bill to prevent it from being used in support of deliberately procured abortions.

Senators Sir John Carrick and Lajovic, from 198 and 108 petitioners, respectively, praying that the United Nations Convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women be not ratified.

Senator Lajovic, from 69 petitioners praying that the proposal to build an airport in the North-Western region of Sydney, commonly called Scheyville, be rejected and that the findings of the MANS Committee be endorsed.

Senator Sir John Carrick, from 23 petitioners praying that the Family Law Act and the Marriage Act be amended to strengthen the institution of marriage.
