PRIVILEGES-STANDING COMMITTEE-REFERENCE

Order of the Day read for the adjourned debate on the motion of Senator Bolkus-That the comments of Mr Charles Q.C. before the Royal Commission on Australia's Security and Intelligence Agencies, and especially those comments referring to Senator Bolkus on page 5532 of the transcript of proceedings of the Royal Commission, be referred to the Committee of Privileges.

Senator Bolkus, by leave, amended his motion to read as follows:

That the Joint Select Committee on Parliamentary Privilege be requested to consider, as part of its report on the law and practice of parliamentary privilege, such policy issues as arise from the matters raised by Senator Bolkus in the Senate on 4 October 1983 relating to certain statements made by counsel appearing before the Royal Commission on Australia's Security and Intelligence Agencies.

Debate ensued.
