DEATHS OF MINISTERS AND OFFICIALS OF THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA

The Leader of the Government (Senator Button) referred to the deaths, on 9 October 1983, of Ministers and officials of the Government of the Republic of Korea, and, by leave, moved-That the Senate- (a) expresses its profound sympathy at the loss of the lives of Ministers and officials of the Government of the Republic of Korea in the bomb explosion in Rangoon, Burma on Sunday, 9 October 1983;

(b) reaffirms its abhorrence of and opposition to terrorism;

(c) reaffirms its support for the people of the Republic of Korea and calls on all nations with interests and concerns in the Korean Peninsula to exercise restraint and moderation at this difficult time; and

(d) requests the President to convey the terms of this Resolution to the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea.

And the motion having been supported by the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate (Senator Chaney), Senator Jessop, Senator Collard, the Leader of the Australian Democrats (Senator Chipp) and Senator Harradine- And all Senators having stood, in silence- Motion agreed to.
