PETITIONS

The following petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received: Senators Ryan, Teague and Walters, from 105, 87 and 104 petitioners, respectively, praying that the United Nations Convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women be not ratified.

Senator Macklin, from 41 petitioners praying that the Senate legislate to ensure that no nuclear weapons are allowed into Australia, that all uranium mining cease in Australia and that the Senate urge the Government to encourage the United States and the Soviet Union to stop the nuclear arms race.

Senator Ryan, from 193 petitioners praying that the United Nations Convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women be ratified.

Senator Reid, from 375 petitioners praying that support be given to Amnesty International regarding the case of Mr Mart Niklus and that representations be made to the Government of the Soviet Union for his release and sponsored entry into Australia.

Senator MacGibbon, from 31 petitioners praying that the Senate request the Government to reverse its decision to cut funding to Brisbane Airport and ensure it receives priority funding for completion by 1987.

Senator Messner, from 2600 petitioners praying that the tax on fortified wine be either withdrawn or modified in its method of application and collection.
