PETITIONS

The following petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received: Senators Bjelke-Petersen and Scott, from 68 and 133 petitioners, respectively, praying that the United Nations Convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women be not ratified.

Senator Baume, from 31 petitioners praying that the proposal to build an airport in the North-Western region of Sydney, commonly called Scheyville, be rejected and that the findings of the MANS Committee be endorsed.

Senator MacGibbon, from 7 petitioners praying that the Senate request the Government to reverse its decision to cut funding to Brisbane Airport and ensure it receives priority funding for completion by 1987.

Senator Bjelke-Petersen, from 23 petitioners praying that the imperial system of measurement be restored.

Senator Scott, from 63 petitioners praying that a Senate Select Committee on Nuclear Disarmament and Peace be established to investigate the creation of a Ministry of Peace and Nuclear Disarmament.

Senator Macklin, from 109 petitioners praying that the Senate legislate to ensure that no nuclear weapons are allowed into Australia, that all uranium mining cease in Australia and that the Senate urge the Government to encourage the United States and the Soviet Union to stop the nuclear arms race.

Senator Missen, from 13 petitioners praying that the proposed taxation of the Defence Force Reserves pay be not introduced.
