PETITIONS

The following petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received: Senator Robert Ray, from 229 petitioners praying that the National Committee on Discrimination in Employment and Occupation be commissioned to conduct a nation-wide study on sexual discrimination and that legislation be introduced to outlaw sexual discrimination based on the results of the study.

Senators Baume, Boswell, Childs, Sibraa, Teague, Walters and Watson, from 147, 7061, 24, 14, 522, 77 and 82 petitioners, respectively, praying that the United Nations Convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women be not ratified.

Senators Bjelke-Petersen, Chaney, Crowley, Jack Evans and Haines, from 6, 22, 5, 4 and 11 petitioners, respectively, praying that the Defence Service Homes Act be amended to enable all ex-service women who served Australia in World War II to qualify for Defence Service Home Loans.

Senators Crowley and MacGibbon, from 48 and 15 petitioners, respectively, praying that the United Nations Convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women be ratified.

Senators Bjelke-Petersen and Crichton-Browne, from 12 and 244 petitioners, respectively, praying that the Senate support the issue of postage stamps to commemorate the services of the Australian Forces in Korea and Vietnam.

Senator Crichton-Browne, from 47 petitioners praying that the requirement for a declaration to be completed by pensioner and health-care card holders be immediately abolished.

Senator Baume, from 114 petitioners praying that the tax on lump sum superannuation be not increased.

Senator Reid, from 664 petitioners praying that support be given to Amnesty International regarding the case of Mr Mart Niklus and that representation be made to the Government of the Soviet Union for his release and sponsored entry into Australia.

Senator Geitzelt, from 314 petitioners praying that the Senate request the Treasurer to withdraw the 30 per cent lump sum superannuation tax.

Senator MacGibbon, from 21 petitioners praying that legislation be introduced to ensure that no international treaties or conventions are ratified without the approval of the State Parliaments and that reaffirmation be given for the maintenance of the division of powers between Commonwealth and State Parliaments.

Senator MacGibbon, from 2221 petitioners praying that the Senate request the Government to reverse its decision to cut funding to Brisbane Airport and ensure it receives priority funding for completion by 1987.
