Order of the Day read for the adjourned debate on the motion of the Minister for Veterans' Affairs (Senator Gietzelt)-That these Bills be now read a second time- And on the amendment moved thereto by Senator Macklin, viz: Leave out all words after ''That'', insert ''these Bills be referred to the Standing Committee on Finance and Government Operations''.

Senator Mason moved an amendment, viz: At end of motion, add '', but in the opinion of the Senate the Taxation (Unpaid Company Tax) Assessment Amendment Bill 1983 should be amended to remove its effect on purely paper capital gains of affected companies and to provide for an effective anomalies organisation empowered to decide whether tax assessments arising from this legislation should be withdrawn or reduced in cases of demonstrable injustice''.
