PETITIONS

The following petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received: Senators Archer, Peter Rae and Boswell, from 15, 24 and 12 586 petitioners, respectively, praying that the United Nations Convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women be not ratified.

Senators Robertson, Crowley, Coleman and Macklin, from 58, 73, 21 and 14 petitioners, respectively, praying that the United Nations Convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women be ratified.

Senator Robertson, from 22 petitioners praying that the enabling legislation to protect the Franklin River in South West Tasmania be passed at the earliest opportunity.

Senator Macklin, from 89 petitioners praying that the Senate legislate to prevent the construction of a uranium enrichment plant in South East Queensland; and reject all applications for the export of products from and foreign investment in uranium enrichment plants.

Senator Chipp, from 25 petitioners praying that the imperial system of measurement be restored.
