COMMITTEES-APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS

The Deputy-President (Senator Hamer) informed the Senate that the President had received letters from the Leader of the Government, the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, the Leader of the Australian Democrats and Senator Harradine nominating Senators to be members of certain Committees.

The Minister for Education and Youth Affairs (Senator Ryan), by leave, moved- (1 ) That the Senators indicated, having been duly nominated in accordance with the Resolutions agreed to by both Houses, be appointed members of the respective Joint Committees as follows: Joint Committee on the Australian Capital Territory :

Senators Giles, Lajovic, Reid and Reynolds.

Joint Committee on the New Parliament House:

Senators Colston, Georges, Martin, Reid, Sibraa and Teague.

Joint Select Committee on Parliamentary Privilege:

The Attorney-General (Senator Gareth Evans), Senators Georges, Jessop, Macklin and Peter Rae.

(2) That, the Senators, having been duly nominated in accordance with Resolutions re-appointing the Standing Committee on Appropriations and Staffing and the Select Committee on Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes, be appointed members of the respective Committees, as follows: Standing Committee on Appropriations and Staffing:

President, Leader of the Government, Leader of the Opposition in the Senate (in accordance with the Resolution establishing the Committee), Senators Elstob, Harradine, Jessop, Mason, Robertson and Sibraa.

Select Committee on Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes:

Senators Bjelke-Petersen, Crowley, Giles, Haines, Walters and Zakharov.
