Senator Tate gave Notices of Motion as follows- No. 1-To move on the next day of sitting-That the Senate, gravely concerned at the misallocation of resources, particularly reflected in arms expenditure which distorts development and imperils the survival of humanity:

(a) supports the creation of an Australian Peace and Development Research Institute as an independent statutory authority of international standing to undertake research and stimulate public awareness of peace and development issues; and

(b) requests that peace and development issues be addressed at cabinet level through a mechanism such as a Ministry of Peace as advocated by the United Nations Association of Australia.

No. 2-To move on the next day of sitting-That leave be given to introduce a Bill for an Act to amend the National Service Act 1951 in respect of persons whose conscientious beliefs do not allow them to engage in military duties.
