PETITIONS

The following petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received: Senators Walters, Archer and Boswell, from 30, 11 and 201 petitioners, respectively, praying that the United Nations Convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women be not ratified.

Senator Colston, from 69 petitioners praying that Telecom be preserved and developed as the sole provider of an integrated national telecommunications system.

Senator Colston, from 454 petitioners praying that the powers of the Postal Commission to carry letters for reward be strengthened.

Senator Gietzelt, from 58 petitioners praying that the requirement for a declaration to be completed by pensioner and health-care card holders be immediately abolished.

Senator Macklin, from 60 petitioners praying that the Senate legislate to prevent the construction of a uranium enrichment plant in South-East Queensland, and reject all applications for the export of products from and foreign investment in uranium enrichment plants.
