PETITIONS

The following petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received: Senator Grimes, from 38 petitioners praying that the Parliament urge the Government to establish a royal commission to investigate the effects on Vietnam veterans of the use of toxic chemicals in the Vietnam war.

Senators Tate and Robertson, from 8782 and 1122 petitioners, respectively, praying that the requirement for a declaration to be completed by pensioner and health-care card holders be immediately abolished.

Senator Macklin, from 763 petitioners praying that the Senate legislate to prevent the construction of a uranium enrichment plant in South-East Queensland; and reject all applications for the export of products from and foreign investment in uranium enrichment plants.

Senator Collard, from 14 petitioners praying that pensions and benefits be increased to at least 30 per cent of the national average weekly earnings; that the means test and income tests for pensioner health benefits be removed; that Medibank be re-introduced; and that $200 million for State housing authorities be provided.
