SALARIES AND WAGES PAUSE ACT 1982 AND SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT-RELATED PROGRAMS ACT 1982-PROPOSED STATEMENTS ON OPERATION

Senator Harradine, by leave, moved-That, in respect of each week during which the Senate meets, on the first day on which the Senate meets during that week, the Leader of the Government make a statement informing the Senate on the operation of the Salaries and Wages Pause Act 1982 and the Special Employment- related Programs Act 1982, and in particular on savings effected in the expenditure of the Commonwealth and amounts paid to the States, respectively, under those Acts.

Debate ensued.

The Minister for Finance (Senator Dame Margaret Guilfoyle), by leave, moved-That the motion be amended to read as follows: That, in respect of each 3 week period during which the Senate meets, on the first day on which the Senate meets during that period, the Leader of the Government make a statement informing the Senate on the operation of the Salaries and Wages Pause Act 1982 and the Special Employment-related Programs Act 1982, and the expenditure of the Commonwealth and the amounts paid to the States, respectively, under those Acts.

Debate ensued.

Question-That the amendments be agreed to-put and passed.

Senator Tate moved an amendment to the proposed motion, as amended, viz: At end of proposed motion, add '', and that all Senators declare their gross income for the year ending on the commencement of the Acts and at a date twelve months after the commencement of the Acts''.

Debate ensued.

Senator Tate, by leave, withdrew his amendment.

Question-That the motion, as amended, be agreed to-put and passed.
