Senator Robert Ray gave a Notice of Motion, as follows-That, on the next day of sitting, he would move-That the Senate is of the opinion that:

(a) the political opportunism demonstrated by the Federal Government in spending $2 million to advertise selected features of the 1982 Budget is contemptible;

(b) no government ought to be wasting taxpayers' funds on questionable propaganda; and

(c) the abolition of the Government Information Unit would also be a beneficial step in eliminating expenditure of public money on thinly disguised political exercises-a saving which, added to the $2 million, could alleviate some of the suffering experienced by the unemployed in the community.
