PETITIONS

The following petitions, presented by the Senators indicated, were received and read: Senator Keeffe, from 17 citizens of Australia praying that the Parliament urge the Government to establish a Royal Commission to investigate the effects on Vietnam veterans of the use of toxic chemicals in the Vietnam war.

Senator Childs, from 97 citizens of Australia praying that the Government ensure the maintenance of an efficient, effective public telegram service.

The following petitions, presented by the Senators indicated, were received: Senator Macklin, from 14 citizens of Australia praying that the Parliament urge the Government to establish a Royal Commission to investigate the effects on Vietnam veterans of the use of toxic chemicals in the Vietnam war.

Senator Gietzelt, from 59 citizens of Australia praying that the Government ensure the maintenance of an efficient, effective public telegram service.

The following petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received: Senator Ryan, from 550 citizens of Australia praying that the Government urge the Australia Council to reverse its decision to cut funding for the Popular Theatre Troupe of Queensland in 1983.

Senators Jessop, Teague and Messner, from 115, 21 and 23 citizens of Australia, respectively, praying that the Government ensure the maintenance of an efficient , effective public telegram service.

Senator Grimes, from 84 citizens of Australia praying that the Parliament urge the Government to establish a Royal Commission to investigate the effects on Vietnam veterans of the use of toxic chemicals in the Vietnam war.

Senator Jessop, from 95 citizens of Australia praying that the Senate request the Government to hold a referendum on the question that the entire area of the Great Barrier Reef and its surrounding waters be immediately declared a marine park under the provisions of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act 1975.

Senator Jessop, from 146 citizens of Australia praying that the Government reverse its decision on the funding of women's refuges, rape crisis centres and women's health centres, concentrate the administration of women's services within one department, guarantee triennial funding and increase funding for existing services.

Senator Peter Baume, from 20 citizens of Australia praying that the Senate urge the Government to declare the entire Great Barrier Reef region a marine park under the provisions of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act 1975, prohibit oil exploration in the region and provide staff and resources for effective management of the region.

Senator Walsh, from 15 citizens of Australia praying that the Parliament refrain from enacting any plant variety rights legislation.
