The President informed the Senate that Senator Ryan had proposed that a matter of public importance be submitted to the Senate for discussion, viz: ''The continuing failure of the Federal Government to grant freehold title to Aboriginal and Islander people to their reserve lands in Queensland''.

And at least four Senators having risen in support of the proposed discussion- The President called upon Senator Ryan to speak.

Discussion ensued.

Paper: The Minister for Education (Senator Peter Baume), by Command of His Excellency the Governor-General, laid upon the Table the following Paper: Aboriginal Reserve Land Tenure in Queensland-Publication of the Department of Aboriginal Affairs.

Discussion continued.

Ordered-That the business of the day be called on.
