DISCUSSION OF MATTER OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE

The President informed the Senate that Senator Evans had proposed that a matter of public importance be submitted to the Senate for discussion, viz: ''The long history of delay, neglect, incompetence and maladministration in the Attorney- General's Department under Senator Durack''.

And at least four Senators having risen in support of the proposed discussion- The President called upon Senator Evans to speak.

Leave refused: Senator Evans sought leave to incorporate a document in Hansard.

Objection being raised, leave not granted.

Paper: Senator Evans, by leave, laid upon the Table the following Paper:

Attorney-General-Some aspects of Senator Durack's record as Attorney-General 1977-82, dated 8 September 1982.

Discussion ensued.

Ordered-That the business of the day be called on.
