HEALTH LEGISLATION AMENDMENT BILL 1982

Order of the Day read for the adjourned debate on the Question-That this Bill be now read a second time.

Senator Grimes moved an amendment, viz: At end of motion, add '', but the Senate is of the opinion that the following additional measures are necessary to combat medical fraud: (a) elimination of technical ambiguities hampering the courts;

(b) provisions for admitting generalised evidence to the courts after conviction on specific charges but prior to sentencing, with full opportunity for the convicted practitioner to counter the evidence; and

(c) adoption of verification procedures through medical consumers''.

Debate ensued.

On the motion of the Minister for Education (Senator Peter Baume) the debate was adjourned.

Ordered-That the resumption of the debate be an Order of the Day for a later hour of the day.
